Today we celebrate Bishop Cathleen Chittenden Bascom of the Diocese of Kansas
The Right Reverend Cathleen Chittenden Bascom, D.Min., was ordained and consecrated as the 10th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas on Saturday, March 2, 2019, in Grace Cathedral, Topeka. She had a faith experience that was nurtured at the Canterbury House and Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence, where she explored a call to ordination.
According to The Very Rev. Foster Mays, “It delights me that Cathleen Bascom will be our next bishop. While this election was historic, at its core lay delegates and clergy were selecting the person who will lead this diocese for the next decade or more.”

“All bishops of the Episcopal Church, active or retired, make up the House of Bishops. Like the governing body of the United States, the governing body of the Episcopal Church (called “the General Convention”) is comprised of two Houses: the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies. They meet and act separately, and both Houses must concur to adopt legislation. General Convention meets every three years, and the House of Bishops meets twice a year between conventions in a non-legislative capacity. The Presiding Bishop is the president of the House of Bishops.”
