CHRISTIAN FORMATION

"Jesus Loves Me This I Know . . . For the Bible Tells Me So!"

Part of our mission statement is to “Strengthen our Faith.” On our website and particularly this page we provide resources to “Strengthen YOUR Faith,”to add, enhance, and share knowledge and experiences.

Christian Formation used to be called Christian Education. When many people think about Christian Education they tend to think about a teacher and a student relationship. With this type of organized way to study scripture there is an active and a passive learner. With Christian Formation  you are always learning, always being shaped, and always being molded to deepen your understanding of your faith.

Technology provides tools to enhance our spiritual and religious faith journey. For many individuals, social media is their primary or sole means of connecting with others. Remember, the resources on this website are not meant to replace communal fellowship. Choose a partner or a group to study, discuss, and encourage you on your Christian journey.  The Bible says, “For where two or three are gathered in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” – Matthew 18:20 (NKLV)

Blessed Lord, who caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning:

Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Faith is not about knowing . . . It's just about doing!

The Book of Common Prayer (BCP)

Prayer starts with a conversation and leads to a relationship with God and Jesus Christ. There are at least four types of prayers:

  • Adoration: Give God praise and honor for who he is as Lord over all.

  • Confession: Honestly deal with the sin in your prayer life.

  • Thanksgiving: Verbalize what you’re grateful for in your life and in the world around you.

  • Supplication: Pray for the needs of others and yourself.

COLLECTS

What is a COLLECT? Click to learn more
A COLLECT  is  . . .

Simply a prayer meant to gather the intentions of the people and the focus of worship into a succinct prayer.

All of the collects more or less fit a pattern that Archbishop Thomas Cranmer developed, and some would say, perfected in the first Book of Common Prayer (1549). The form of collects is actually quite simple.

  • First, there is an address to God and to his character or actions in the world on our behalf.
  • Second, there is a request.
  • Third, there is an invocation and doxology.
  • Finally, there is The Amen.

  • Heavenly Father, you have promised to hear what we ask in the Name of your Son: Accept and fuulfill our petitions, we pray, not as we ask in our ignorance, nor  as we deserve in our sinfulness, but as you know and love us in your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen – (BCP, 394)

  • Almighty and eternal God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth: Mercifully accept the prayers of your people, and strengthen us to do your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen – (BCP p. 394)

  • Almighty God, to whom our needs are known before we ask, help us to ask only what accords with your will; and those good things which we dare not, or in out blindness cannot ask, grant us for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen – (BCP p. 395)

  • O Lord our God, accept the fervent prayers of your people; in the multitude of your mercies, look with compassion upon us and all who turn to you for help; for you are gracious, O lover of souls, and to you we give glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever. Amen – (BCP p. 394)

  • Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles, “Peace I give to you; my own peace I leave with you: “Regard not our sins, but the faith of your Church, and give to us the peace and unity of that heavenly City, where with the Father and the Holy Spirit, you live and reign, now and for ever. Amen – (BCP p.395)

  • Hasten, O Father, the coming of thy kingdom; and grant that we thy servants, who now live by faith, may with joy behold thy Son at his coming in glorious majesty; even Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Advocate. – (BCP p.395)

  • Almighty God, by your Holy Spirit you have made us one with your saints in heaven and on earth: Grant that in our earthly pilgrimage we may always be supported by this fellowship of love and prayer, and know ourselves to be surrounded by their witness to your power and mercy. We ask this for the sake of Jesus Christ, in whom all our intercessions are acceptable through the Spirit, and who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen – (BCP p.395)
